CNC Drawing Machine
As a hobbyist, I enjoy working on various projects for the sake of learning and having something I'm proud to say I designed and built. Many of these projects take advantage of my Creality CR-10 3D printer. Taking inspiration from other hobbyists I follow online, I decided my next project wouldn't simply use the printer, but rather modify it to do something it isn't meant to do.
In SolidWorks, I designed and printed a small clamp that could grip a pen vertically and take the place of the hot end on my printer. The gcode necessary for the now CNC drawing machine to work was generated from svg images within Inkscape. Once the gcode was uploaded, I had flawless computer drawn images. I took my 3D printer, which is meant to create 3D models from molten plastic, and made it draw 2D images with a pen.
