Pressure Regulator

As part of my Introduction to Engineering course, my team and I were tasked with creating a water pressure regulating system that could be implemented in a residential home. The goal of the device would be to increase or decrease the incoming mains pressure in order to maintain constant pressure within the home.

The device uses a piezoelectric pressure transducer that outputs a varying voltage level in correlation with the mains pressure level. A microcontroller translates that voltage into pressure using our calibration curve. If the pressure is too low, it actuates two of the three solenoid valves to redirect the flow to the pressure booster. If the pressure is too high, the flow is redirected through the pressure reducer. If the pressure is excessively high, the third valve actuates and cuts off the flow entirely to protect the home.
