Sonos Flow

Sonos Challenged us to design a product that allows their customers to "Transition Between Spaces." Over the course of a week, my team and I developed a mobile app and accompanying hardware which transfers music from room to room as the user moves through their living space.

We acheive this by using bluetooth beacons, which are located in the small base that was designed and 3D printed to house a raspberry pi and sit just below the speaker. The raspberry pi's have their bluetooth antennae continuously on, so the user's phone can continue to scan for the beacons. This allow us to approximate which room the user is in based on the measured signal strength from each beacon. As the signal strength rises and falls, so does the voume of the corresponding speaker. This gives the illusion that the music follows you, allowing you to better "transition between spaces."
